If some news outlets are to be believed, the release date of the new Borderlands 3 game may have finally been teased. The new president of 2K Games David Ismailer, as well as Take-Two Interactive’s CEO Strauss Zelnick, have been quoted by many such outlets talking about the plans surrounding many of their heavyweight releases in the very near future. In fact, while the game’s official name is yet to be revealed, we do know a lot of Borderlands 3 latest news.
Borderlands 3 Latest News: Some Clues about the Release Date
Of particular mention is what Zelnick had to say. He had earlier conceded that the last year had been a “letdown” as far as 2K Games were concerned. Now, Zelnick says that while it is true that the company had a relatively uneventful year, there was still a chance of redemption. He went on to concede that Battleborn was not as big a success as the company had thought previously. He said that 2K Games was looking to have a really good fiscal year 2018-2019.
Zelnick stated that FY 2019 was already looking up as the company was focusing on releasing follow ups to some of the biggest franchises. It is in this context that he stated that the release of another popular game, Red Dead Redemption 2, was set for next year. He then went on to suggest that a huge new offering from 2K Games was on the horizon. It is in this context that we believe that he was almost certainly referring to Borderlands 3.
Of course, this information is open to interpretation. The reason: it is very difficult to pinpoint a date, or even a month, from what Zelnick stated. FY 2019 means anytime between mid-2018 and mid-2019. What it does, however, is highlight the time period in which the game will arrive.
You can ask us why we believe that the CEO of Take-Two Interactive was talking about Borderlands 3. There are not many games on the release list as far as the developers and publishers are concerned. We also know that Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford had earlier pitched some tech demo of a new Borderlands game. Besides, 2K Games and Take-Two will surely take some cues from Rockstar Games, which, thanks to games like GTA V and GTA Online, raked in around $1 billion last year. Also, given that Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, was not the massive hit it was supposed to be, it is likely that 2K Games will try to release the game in 2019 to recoup some losses.
